Dice and Card Games

Horse Races:

Materials – 36 dice, 1 palat (If you do not have a fancy palat or 36 dice at home, you can use 2 dice and a piece of paper to tally your score)

How many players?  2

How do I play?

  • Each player starts with 18 dice.
  • The first player rolls two of their 18 dice.  They they create an addition sentence.  For example, 2 + 3 = 5
  • The second player rolls two of their 18 dice.  They too create an addition sentence.
  • Whoever has the largest sum, wins that race.  Their dice go on the horse race.  The person who was not the highest, sets their dice to the side in the barn yard.
  • If one player rolls a double, then players switch dice.  This is a twist in the game.
  • If both players roll the same sum, then a game of rock, paper, scissors happen and the winner, wins the horse race.

In time, we will be using this game for multiplication.  (February 2019).
